LadyLady Starlight, a performance artist, was introduced to Gaga during the time. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The album she released first, "The Fame", was released in 2008 with little media attention. Gaga went on tour in Europe and the US to promote her album. It was not until Gaga was able to release her first single, "Just Dance", that attention from the public began to get to the industry. Gaga suffered from a labral tear in her right leg, which she was secretly nursing for several weeks so that she could go on the tour. After her performance in Toronto, Gaga was unable walk and was suffering from severe discomfort. She was taken to the hospital and her tour was canceled.
